I started with an old tshirt, and cut it into long 1/2" strips. 
Then wound it around my hand...
Tied it round the middle and sniped the loops on each end. This gave me little pompom flowers.
For the center of the flowers I used 1"x1" glass squares wrapped in a patterned fabric, and a rubber band to hold the fabric on. A quick snip...
and they're ready to be glued on.
